Play Therapy

There are many different types of play therapy that are approved by the Association for Play Therapy, and each modality (or type) is paired with the specific needs of your child to achieve the results you are looking for in a way that your are comfortable with. You can explore the modalities we offer below. Regardless of modality needed, parents receive regular consultations to coordinate efforts, troubleshoot difficult moments, and assess for progress.

Research supported treatment for:

Anxiety, Depression, Conduct Disturbances, ADHD, Social Skills Development,  Low Self-Esteem, Adjustment-Related Stress, Trauma, and more

Child Centered Play Therapy

This model of play therapy puts your child in the driver seat during their play sessions; they use play as their language to communicate thoughts and feelings about themselves and their world. The therapist provides unconditional positive regard, complete attunement and limit setting to help the child gain awareness and lay the foundation for emotional regulation.

Theraplay-based activities

Theraplay is a therapist-directed model of play therapy that promotes optimal growth, healthy attachment and emotional regulation by focusing on 4 dimensions of your child's world: structure, engagement, nurture and challenge

Synergetic Play Therapy

Synergetic Play Therapyâ„¢ is a researched-informed model of play therapy blending the therapeutic power of play with nervous system regulation, interpersonal neurobiology, physics, attachment, mindfulness, and therapist authenticity. (Dion, 2008)

Adlerian Play Therapy

Adlerian play therapy is an active and rather directive approach to working therapeutically with children using play (toys, stories, art, drama, puppets, and role-playing) as the vehicle for communication. This therapy model is founded on the idea that children are socially embedded, goal-directed, subjective, and creative beings (Kottman, 2011).

Play-based CBT

The goal of this Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) model is to change patterns of thinking or behavior that are behind the child's difficulties in an effort to promote emotional regulation and healing all through the power of play.

Sand Tray Therapy

This therapy model utilizes miniature toys and colored sand to do creative processing with your child. We explore their perception of self and their life to resolve conflicts, remove obstacles, promote neural integration, develop self acceptance and aid in overall emotional regulation.

No matter what happens in the session, every kid gets the same message:

"You are important, you are valuable, & you are worthy"
